Your tour guide will give you a brief overview of Old Town Toronto before leading you past Berczy Park, where there is a beautiful new fountain, to one of their favourite coffee shops for a cup of your choice of brew, and then to a small sandwich shop nearby that is said to have the best apple cake in the entire world. After tasting it, you can make your own judgement. We adore bringing our visitors to this really local restaurant. From there, you'll travel to St. Lawrence Market, which was once named the "Best Food Market in the World" by National Geographic. Here, you'll discover the history behind Toronto's official signature dish, the must-try peameal bacon sandwich! Now that celebrity chefs like Anthony Bourdain and Emeril have tried one of these, it's your time. There will be time spent inside St. Lawrence Market visiting vendors on the two retail levels and tasting foods that have been significant to the cultures of immigrants who have settled here over the past 200 years, as well as foods that have become so common in this area that it's frequently a shock to locals to learn some of their favourites are essentially unknown outside of Ontario! Your guide will have the opportunity to share a brief bit of Canadian history with you at each stop, as well as information on how the food fits into both their own life and Canada's cultural landscape.
